This place voted 85% for Trump and this place went for Clinton by a 10pt margin.

A Facebook meme I saw compares people "whining" about coal to people "whining" that there are no more jobs for telephone switchboard operators.

The Democratic party, in my opinion, has completely stopped being the party of the poor, the working people, the little people, the "great unwashed". Rather, they--for better or worse-- are now a socially liberal, inclusive, pro-corporate, pro-free trade, pro-business party.

Perhaps this is an opening for the Green Party to make inroads in future years, but this year Trump ran the table with those who felt economically and socially disenfranchised, and forgotten. African Americans were of course the exception, but that is "a whole nother" topic.

Harlan County and Darien are but two examples of this trend. For those familiar with southeast MI (Detroit suburbs), upscale Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, and West Bloomfield Township, all GOP strongholds until recently, all voted for Clinton. Working class Waterford, as well as working-class Macomb County, voted for Trump, as I have posted elsewhere.
