Did Grassley previously promise not to run for reelection this year?

I'd be down for Senator McMuffin. Trump will probably do everything in his power to stop it though.

Do we know if he's considering running as an independent or a Republican?

Hatch has promised to retire since he won his third term back in 1994, since that was a big part of how he defeated the Democratic incumbent. "What do you call someone who's been a Senator for 18 years? You call him home." and all that.

But he's broken his promise every single election, and after being elected, he makes the promise again and again and again. And we're fool enough to believe him.

Also, I don't know much about McMullin running, but I'm hearing that Jon Huntsman might run as an independent. And there's some random progressive activist already running on the Democratic side.

Why would Huntsman run as an independent? Didn't he endorse Trump?

Call me an "ageist" if you like, but 84 is too damn old to run for such an demanding and important office that has a six year term. Hatch needs to pack it in.

That's been the rumor so far. No indication of Huntsman running as a Republican.

This is also true, yeah. We don't need another Strom Thurmond or Daniel Inouye.

Yeah, he's burned way too many bridges with the new GOP and right wing to feasibly win a State Convention or primary.

Jon Huntsman, Mike Leavitt, Spencer Cox, and Mia Love are the only good Republicans who could feasibly beat him. Presumably Huntsman would get The Salt Lake Tribune's backing, even if unofficially, since it is owned by his brother.

A Senator McMullin would be awesome.  Someone who has actual values and isn't a hack.

Huntsman seems like a Chuck Hagel type to me.  Not neocon but not a Ron Paul type.  I can live with that.

Worth noting that it said in that article that he said he would run as a Republican.
