I just think it's striking how Ellison blew such a lead, and I supported him. Considering this it's probably best he won't win.

How did he "blow" such a lead?

He never had a lead he was just more public about his support. Perez wasn't that public with his support, Ellison support among Dem voters created a perception of an edge, and Perez enthusiasm was lacking. Perez was relying on inside connection like every job he got so he knew he had to run a shadow campaign.

Just a ?: 427 votes were cast; 50%+1 is necessary to win, but 1/2-votes are a thing... so why was 214.5 needed to win on the 1st ballot instead of 214, which was the lowest possibly-achievable number of votes greater than 50% (considering 1/2 of 427 is 213.5, & if 1/2-votes are a thing, then 214 should be considered the minimum necessary to win, rather than 214.5)??
