Luzerne County went from 55% Obama to 58% Trump. Lackawanna County, home of working class Scranton, went from 63% Obama to 50% Clinton. Both are working class counties with extremely high populations of working class whites. Did the second coming of the Reagan Democrat happen?

Reagan Democrats weren't ing working class voters, they were middle to upper middle class voters mostly from ethnic backgrounds. Look at 84' presidential map in Pennsylvania. This myth needs to fycking destroyed.

No.

Take a look at Cambria County (where I use to live).  I think Obama carried it in 2008 and lost it in 2012, but fairly closely.

Trump broke 70% this year.

It has been Trump's appeal to working class and non-urban, non-suburban populations.

Lackawanna has strong ties to Joe Biden (he was born in Scranton, as he often likes to state), and Hilary's father was likewise born in Scranton and was buried there (he died in Little Rock).  Lackawanna also has a larger population than Luzerne, which accounts for Hilary winning the popular vote there.

Luzerne on the other hand, outside of two clusters of cities/towns (Wilkes/Barre and the Route 11 coridor in the north, and Hazleton in the south), is much more rural.  During the primary, Trump won 77% of the Republican vote in Luzerne, and I can tell you his yard signs were like dandelions.  He filled the Mohegan Sun Area twice when he spoke here, and the venue can hold about 15k people.

Lackawanna has always been more left-leaning.  the county voted in '88 for Dukakis  and Carter in '80, while Luzerne voted for Reagan in 80 and 84 and for Bush-41 in '88.

Reagan got 48% in Lackawanna county.

PA in 1980 exhibited the historic East-West divide with the West being Democratic. Republicans won the suburbs of Philly like they did at that time, but extended that up to historically Democratic voters in the Lehigh Valley and NE portion of the state including Luzerne and a very strong performance in Lackawanna county.
