Oh come, it was the right-wing talking points back before Al Qaeda struck again. Now it's suddenly bad to say?

This is not and should not be a partisan issue.  With respect for the victims of this outrageous attack, don't make political hay of this.

Well, sorry, but I really do wish that Bush had spent more time actually going after Al Qaeda.

That may be the case, but this is a rather inappropriate format with which to express your disapproval, to put it as nicely as possible.

off …this is NOT a partisan issue… so don’t pollute this board with that kinda bile

I'm London (next door to Kings X) and its terrible, back in my room now… the SOBs who did this, who target innocent men, women and children simply for belonging to a tolerant, peaceful, democratic society have got a big surprise coming if they think it’ll shake the resolve of the Brits…

But terrorism is still a problem, is a danger for all.
11/9 was four years ago.
I'm not sure that the priority on Iraq/Saddam was the solution. This was the wrong direction on war to terrorism.
Now we have Saddam, we don't have Bin Laden.
Now we are in trouble:
We can't leave Iraq alone (or it become an Al Qaeda fortress).
And we need more people, more soldiers, more money, more intelligence fighting Al Qaeda.

At what point will it become acceptable to start discussing Jfern's point in a civil manner?  Two weeks or so?

Now, I'm gonna agree that this was in bad taste and that this issue shouldn't be made partisan. To seriously respond, I have this to say - there is no quick fix for extreme Islamic terrorist groups such as Al Queda, unless of course you think rounding up every last Muslim and putting them in camps is acceptable. It's stupid to think that the problem would just go away. Now, Al Queda HAS been seriously damaged over the last few years, but by no means are they helpless. Exterminating Al Queda and similar groups is like exterminating an infestation roaches - it's extremely difficult to get rid of all of them unless you're willing to take extreme measures.

Bush was wrong to say that they weren't a problem anymore, yes, but he's a politician - he has to say things that make his constituents feel comfortable. That must be considered when dealing with political speeches. If you think there's never been a Democrat who's had to eat his words, then you're dead wrong. What Bush should have said is simply that we have severly damaged Al Queda's abilities to commit acts of terrorism, but that vigilance should be maintained because they can still strike when least expected.

My very sentiments. My wish is that these attacks strengthen British resolve in the War on Terror

I just can't believe it. Yesterday, the ecstasy, today the agony. The good news hadn't even sunk in yet and now this. Today's papers were full of jubilance and tomorrow, it will be this

I agree that it is uncalled for to start being so partisan about such a thing this soon regardless of what side it's coming from.

Not all places go Month/Day/Year when discussing dates.  Many European nations use Day/Month/Year.

It's 11th September, silly!

we know it as 11-S in Mexique!
the US is the only country that uses the "month/day/year" format

Apparently, jfern wasn't the first one to make hay of the attack:

The loss of innocent lives, whether in this country or Iraq, is precisely the result of a world that has become a less safe and peaceful place in recent years.
We have worked without rest to remove the causes of such violence from our world. We argued, as did the Security Services in this country, that the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq would increase the threat of terrorist attack in Britain. Tragically Londoners have now paid the price of the government ignoring such warnings.
We urge the government to remove people in this country from harms way, as the Spanish government acted to remove its people from harm, by ending the occupation of Iraq and by turning its full attention to the development of a real solution to the wider conflicts in the Middle East.
Only then will the innocents here and abroad be able to enjoy a life free of the threat of needless violence.

---- George Galloway, MP

But, seriously, I wonder how many Brits actually agree with that?

We should always be happy when the ing assholes make it clear that they are, in fact, ing assholes.  With all doubt removed we can go forward comfortable in our knowledge that they can be relegated to the sidelines of serious intellectual debate.

Not many and even less now; most of the Muslim leaders in his seat (where one of the bombs went off) have condemmed the attack completely; no playing with politics or anything like that *at all*; it's very likely that several Muslims died.
