In a timeline where Trump never runs and Warren endorses Sanders very early alongside other progressives like Merkley and maybe De Blasio, Gingrich declares his candidacy in July. Building on his Southern base, he unites establishment voters, fiscal conservatives, and the most mainstream Tea Partiers behind his campaign. After Kasich runs a more successful campaign, Gingrich reconciles with the libertarian and moderate branches by picking Sandoval as his running mate.
With Gingrich essentially defeating Sanders on economic policy(53-41) and foreign policy(51-45), Sanders only is more trusted on social issues(52-44). Gingrich wants to repeal the individual mandate in ObamaCare, erase the artificial healthcare borders between states, allow states to add onto the existing coverage, and increase the optional expansion amount for the states. However, his support for greatly increased funding of NASA has caused some interesting coalitions on the newfound issue of NASA.
