Anyone have views that they once thought were stupid and ridiculous but now understand or even support?

Not views that you once supported but now realize are stupid... I'm sure we all went through that edgy alt-political-views or atheism phase in high school.

One that immediately springs to mind for me is the Iraq War.  Grew up reading liberal media editorials and watching MSNBC make fun of Bush every night and how the war was fought for oil, for Bush's daddy issues, because Bush was dumb and thought Saddam did 9/11, etc.  Now that I'm older and wiser I think I would have gone into Iraq too.  The risk * probability of Saddam obtaining WMDs and proliferating them to terrorist groups, as he had shown a reckless willingness to do in the past, was just too great at a time when we were very vulnerable to just such a threat.

I went from being a Clintonian third-way "New Democrat" in my teens to my current form. I used to support free trade , welfare cuts and the death penalty.

Not a view but a person, Jean-Paul Sartre.

Somehow managed to get myself confused with the question(which is quite funny as I was reading everyone's responses the correct way), Sartre was a fycking godawful children's writer at best and downright stupid at worst.

Basically everything about left-wing ideology save for abortion and LGBT+ rights. It's amazing what the University of Montana will do for you.

The idea that Bill Clinton should've been convicted and removed from office by the Senate during his impeachment trial.  That's a big one.

I used to be a bit of a hack about this, but the more I read about it, the more clear it became that - while the Republicans impeaching him for purely partisan reasons - he still should've been removed from office (although I always considered him to be an absolutely revolting individual by any even remotely objective measure, infinitely worse than Hillary tbh).  I'd really like to know where the hell groups like NOW were during that btw Tongue  If Bill Clinton were President today, I think he would've ultimately had to step down.

Economic planning to the left of me, overtly Christian politics to the right. Here I am, stuck in the middle with Stafford Cripps.

Also, what X and Figueira said.

I used to be against all free trade deals. Now I'm rather ambivilent and unsure on the subject. I've grown ambivilent about guns.

And I used to be an obnoxious Bernie hack, but now I get pissed off at the unfair hatred Clinton recieves.

I used to opposed LGBT Rights, but since 2013 I've been a generally strong and reliable supporter of most LGBT causes.

I used to be a gung ho anti-immigration voter but now I support pragmatic reforms.

I used to support gun control, now pro-2nd amendment.

I used to be opposed to free trade and supported protectionism, but since about 2012 I've been a strong supporter of free trade and opponent of protectionism.

Abhor is a strong word.  I can't think of anything that I ever abhorred that I now support.

This. There are a few issues I shifted on, but going from abhorrence to actual embrace is a bit of a stretch.
