There was similar polling showing Romney in a strong position on the island in 2012 but Obama won both counties

Donald Trump is no Mitt Romney. He's got roots here and does well amongst the ethnic groups that populate the Island.

Votes he gains with some working class ethnic whites will be offset by those he loses with nonwhites, the large Jewish population, and suburban women. It'll be a wash in the end...

Clinton loses both counties narrowly.

Doubtful. Neither county has gone to a republican since HW Bush in 1988. Trump is going to get crushed with the affluent college educated voters.

They've been close and Republicans have strong support locally. Don't underestimate the Republican machine on Long Island and how disliked Clinton is. I don't see a Republican landslide here, but there is enough support for them to overcome albeit narrowly.
