Stand the word “y’all,” I cannot.  Use it all the time, my mother does.

Just Ontario and British Columbia as the rest can go to hell. Wink

It already is. Cheesy

Really?  I guess being damned to hell is actually a pretty good experience, in that case.

Seriously, "yall" is an improvement on the English language. It provides a separate word for the 2nd-person plural pronoun than the 2nd-person singular pronoun.

Umm, what do you call 'you guys'? Tongue

Anyway, I say we should all change to and vosotros!

Don't vosotros agree? Smiley

I'm happy with that.  Better to steal words from other languages than bastardize the one we use.

Maybe we could get Dave to make an addition to the swear filter, so that any time somebody types "y'all", it gets changed to "vosotros".  Cheesy

"Y'all" is about 100,000 times better than that ubitquitous "You guys" that you hear so often in the Northeast/Midwest.

I often hear "you guys" when I'm out on a date with a woman from a waiter/waitress.  It makes me want to punch him in the head.  I am not going out with a guy, unlike others who populate this forum.

No, yall need to recognize what an improvement yall is to the English language and use it...a simple one-wrd 2nd-person plural pronoun that's distinct from the singular.

So what's the problem?  It's obvious to everybody in that situation - you, the waiter, and the woman you're with - what's going on.  Why do you feel that his choice of words is an affront to your sexuality?

I'd much prefer to use two words that don't literally apply, than one word that isn't actually even a word.

It's two words. "You all".
And put it together you get the contraction "Ya'll."  It fits.  It sounds perfect.  It solves the problem.

Actually I've heard it stands for "ya all," making the position of the apostrophe ambiguous, either "ya'll" or "y'all."  I prefer to eliminate the apostrophe to avoid this, "yall" and make it seem like a standard formal word.
