If by "supporters", she means "voters", then I think she's about right, though maybe I'd peg it at ~40-45%.  If she's talking about people who are enthusiastic enough about his candidacy to go to his rallies, etc., then yeah, she's being generous.

I mean, is there a possibility this was a premeditated thing to test the waters and see what happens when she herself embraces some of Trump's media tactics?

In other words, could this be good for her? The media will be playing the comment over and over for a few days (meaning they won't be playing e-mail sh-t on repeat), and almost all of her existing supporters will actually agree with her. Plus, it's a pretty meme-able statement that could appeal to young voters who hate Trump but are skeptical of Clinton.

I'm going to remain optimistic; she obviously made the comments knowing they'd be propagated, and she explains herself quite well in the context of the statement. It'll be interesting to see how this plays.

I will add that I've scrolled through the comments on many of the articles reporting this story, and they are a lot more sympathetic to Clinton than you'd think. Her statement almost seems to have fired people up... like they're happy she's punching back.

Damn, even the structure is uncannily similar.

Oh well: she is absolutely right - albeit underestimating the number - and a majority of the country (dare I say 53%?) is rejecting Trump for these very reasons. Good for her! Too bad she probably won't start rolling out this talking point on the campaign trail.

She sure as hell better start publicly acknowledging just how much of this country is foaming-at-the-mouth racist and make them her piñata: they ain't going away if she wins and they're going to be the bane of her presidency otherwise.
