This is the real race of the century and certainly better than Lessig vs Pataki.

Meh, neither of the nominees would be well-liked by their party. Gilmore is literately the most boring candidate that ran this cycle ever while Chafee would find it hard to appeal to the far left.
I'd suspect the GOP to support Gilmore, but they wouldn't become excited at all for him. Chafee would find it hard to keep the far-left in line. Either way, the incumbent will loose next cycle almost certainly.

If Chafee succeeds with keeping his party united...

Jim Gilmore (VA)/Marco Rubio (FL) 266 EVs
Lincoln Chafee (RI)/Sherrod Brown (OH) 272 EVs

If he doesn't succeed with keeping his party united...

Jim Gilmore (VA)/Marco Rubio (FL) 292 EVs
Lincoln Chafee (RI)/Jim Webb (VA) 231 EVs
Bernie Sanders (VT)/Elizabeth Warren (MA) 15 EVs

The first map is possible, but the second map would not happen because the Sanders/Warren ticket would split the Democratic base, allowing Gilmore to take many more states with a plurality.
