As President Bush ends his second term, many historians know that the GOP usually wins 2-4 elections in a row. The Democrat primaries are filled by:

Rep. Dick Gephardt
Sen. John Edwards
Gov. Ed Rendell
Sen. Hillary Clinton

In Iowa, Clinton gets in fourth, Edwards third, Rendell second, and Gephardt wins.

Soon Gephardt gets the nomination and chooses Ed Rendell as his running mate.

For the GOP primaries you have:

Former VP Dan Quayle
Sen. Rick Santorum
Gov. Jeb Bush
Sen. John McCain

In Iowa, Bush comes in last, with Santorum third, Quayle second, and McCain win.

Iowa's favorites both get the nomination. McCain/Santorum vs. Gephardt/Rendell

In the polls, it is a 45% tie with 10% undecided. Come election day, McCain's experence as a senator, sends him and Sen. Santorum to be President-elect McCain and Vice President-elect Santorum. McCain beats Gephardt 448 to 90. On January 20, 2009 President John Sidney McCain and Vice President Rick Santorum are sworn in. President Bush leaves with a 65% approval rating. At 70, McCain shows experience and at 50, Santorum shows youth. Next: PRESIDENT MCCAIN....

Isn't Gephardt retiring from politics after his term is up?

Gephardt is retiring from politics. He is a dead horse and so is Quayle; give up on him Reaganfan. Hillary isn't a real contender. Also keep in mind that it is highly unlikely that the nominees both pick competitors for VP.

Democrats?

I would say the big ones would be:
Edwards
Vilsack

But there could be some others like Rendell.

Republicans I would say these have the top chances of running:
Frist
Owens
Powell

Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein! Perhaps Hillary Rodham but maybe Maxine Waters. Wow! This could be the cast for a horror movie!

The future of the Democratic party has no males left in it?  The California senators aren't that great.

That's not the future of the Democratic party.  Look at who ran for the primaries.

I gotta say PA would be sharply divided by that one.  People in the SE would rather eat shower fungus than vote Santorum.  Rendell is wildly popular there.  Most of PA population is in SE.  However, most of SE have a favorable impression of MCCain.  I do not think Gephardt has ANY charisma.  Rendell should be on the top of that ticket to carry PA and most of Northeast corridor.  I think PA should move up their primaries.

I know I often say this Reaganfan... and I myself have done this with my Dewey administration thread... but please, please try and be unbiased and fair... go on try it Smiley I have republicans and democrats win where I think they will win... all you threads on this section of the board seem to have republican landslide after landslide, with the very occasional unpopular one term democrat popping up now and again...

…another thing Gephardt will not be around in 2008, he’s retiring, Hillary wont run I honestly believe she wont run for president and if she does she will not get the nomination, Rendell could well, if Edwards is the VP this year and Kerry loses then Edwards will run, Evan Bayh could run, Russ Feingold could run, Mark Warner could run, Bill Nelson could run, Mike Easley could run, Mary Landrieu could run and Robert Rubin could run…if I had to guess I would say that at least some of those candidates would run and if he gets re-elected by a solid margin in PA I reckon Rendell would be the strongest candidate…

As for the GOP, McCain wont run again, he will be too old and someone more in sink with the mainstream GOP will be desired, I think that the libertarian and authoritarian wings of the GOP are going to really go for each other after Bush goes… on the right the likes of Santorum (oh please nominate the guy if he runs Cheesy ) may run could run as the champion of the religious right and the conservative wing of the party, however in the end the likes of Frist or Owens, but probably Frist, will run as the moderate candidate and probably win however I doubt that Frist would be inspiring or exciting enough to win against any half way solid democratic candidate, that is not to disparage Frist he would fight a good campaign probably and do well nationally however against most of the democrats he would never be able to open a decisive advantage that said he could still beat them I just doubt that he would…

Kerrey is too long out of politics to stage a comeback.

Napolitano, Richardson, Lynch, Schweitzer, Obama, Tester, Webb, McCaskill, Easley, these are all good names for the future of the Democratic Party by 2016 or 2012.
