Go Meade! Obrador will be a far-left disaster for Mexico!

I didn't know Obrador was an anarchist.

What a voting booth looks like. There is a separate ballot box for each office.  Not clear what the policy/procedure is if the wrong ballot is deposited in the wrong box.

Why don't they have everything on one ballot? Also:

Will there be any election night coverage available in the US? I think CSPAN carried live coverage the last two elections, Spanish with subtitles for American viewers.

Is anyone streaming coverage or is there a website?

AMLO may be a bit social conservative, but Mexico has failed under centrist and right-wing regimes. Lets see if AMLO can make a difference. He has my endorsement

I am for Meade.  If Anaya consistantly poll 5% above Meade I might back him.  This is not true and it seems AMLO will steamroll to victory. No reason not to back my preferred candidate.  Hopefully Meade can come in second.

Honestly if I were Mexican I guess I could support AMLO for president, but certainly wouldn't vote for his party for Congress. He certainly shouldn't get a majority and unchecked power.

So, how badly is the PRI going to be obliterated down the ticket? Has EPN killed the party?

FWIW, every Mexican leftist I know's position is "AMLO isn't perfect, but I'm voting for him."

Does that include voting for MORENA-PT-PES downballot?  If so then PRD will have an even worse night than previously thought.

I wonder though, why are PRD, MC, and PT so irrelevant. I guess that PT is just a front but why are the other parties polling so poorly

So is MC. PRD allied with conservative PAN and MORENO offers an alternative.

Actually he is the Antichrist Wink

It happens that most people thinks that the state of Mexican affairs cannot continue and change is indispensable. With all his contradictions and the doubts he casts, AMLO represents change and a much desired catharsis. I'd say there are inconsistencies in his recipes against corruption and violence, two issues that reach catastrophic proportions in Mexico. However, the PRI and the PAN administrations have failed miserably and people will give him a chance. All hail AMLO, the next president of Mexico

INE expect turnout to be a least 67% versus 63% back in 2012

Pro-AMLO forces are pushing this "exit poll" on twitter

I think this is bogus but gives us a sense of what AMLO camp thinks its cap is  (which is around 48-49).  It has Anaya and Meade conveniently around the same so there is no need for anti-AMLO tactical voting.

El Fincernio exit poll has MORENA winning Mexico City head election.  As expected.

Evening all and thanks for all the updates - just coming up to midnight here in London.

Ok so just a few questions for anyone:

1. Why does Mexico have the longest gap anywhere I think between the election and the new administration taking office (obv excepting where coalition governments need to be formed) - why is the new president not sworn in say 1st Sept or 1st Oct rather than 1st Dec? 5 months seems a really long gap.

2. If results are similar to recent polling, how many states are we expecting AMLO not to win? Guanajuato, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Yucatán which could go to Anaya but other than that a clean sweep?

3. Do people think that a single 6-year term via FPTP election is maybe not the best system - would eg the French system of 2 5-year terms and a runoff election be better? (I think national deputies are now allowed to be re-elected?)

Thanks!

AMLO's first thing on his webpage makes him look like a nazi. Also, yes, all the others are corrupt, but if you think he is cleaner than the rest of them, you are kidding yourselves. Also, he has no good answers for how to get the money for his dumb "reforms". It will be higher taxes and more borrowing.

That sounds so awfully similar to the situation in Venezuela in the 90´s that got Chávez elected. I know it's not the same, but damn if it doesn't ring a bell.

I really hope Maduro doesn't gain a new ally in AMLO. God knows us Venezuelans can't afford that.

Exit polls calls Chiapas, Mexico City, Morelos, and Tabasco governor races for MORENA (expected), Guanajuato for PAN (expected)l; and Jalisco (mostly expected).

Exit polls also say that Puebla and Veracruz are too close to call between MORENA and PAN as well as Yucatan too close to call between PRI and PAN.

Generally these exit poll results are slightly good news for PAN (Aanaya) and slightly bad news for AMLO and PRI.  I still think MORENA are favorites to win Puebla and Veracruz and PRI favorites to win Yucatan but the fact they are neck-to-neck means Anaya is the candidate most likely to over-perform pre-election polls, exactly opposite of what I expected.

I am watching the  EL UNIVERSAL livestream.  My Spanish is pretty bad so I only understand around 2/3 of what they are saying.
