Trump campaign has decided to focus on... Connecticut

(while being down double-digits in Virginia, Colorado, North Carolina... in trouble in Utah and South Carolina and Georgia... and no reason to think CT isn't still solid blue)

Trump is simply trolling GOP insiders at this point.

lol

I have a hard time believing he's genuinely this dumb, especially since I have no doubt all of his advisors are telling him what he should ACTUALLY be doing.

Please compete in CT, NY, and IL. That'll definitely help Hillary flip AZ and GA!

I think this is actually partially true. He must hate all of the actual RNC/GOP advisers constantly giving him advice on how to actually play to win. Beyond just ignoring them, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was at least partially making decisions specifically because these advisers don't like them.

I hope he keeps campaigning in Connecticut, Washington, Califorina and other states he can't win. Less of a chance he can flip any swing states. Wink

I bet Dick Morris advised him to do this.

It would be kind of funny if he manages to flip CT but loses all the swing states and several usually safe R states at the same time.

Now that's losing with style.

It's 7 electoral votes and he was only down by 7 points there.
CT+RI (or NH) and NV are enough to get Trump to 270 without PA.

He's down by double digits in Pennsylvania, which is like six times larger than Connecticut.
If he's only down seven in CT, and it's a smaller state, and he can win without PA if he takes CT then it's not completely senseless for him to target it.  Maybe targeting a state where Hillary's weak and the Democrats weren't expecting a fight makes more sense than targeting Pennsylvania, if he thinks he's going to win Nevada and Iowa (forgot to include Iowa for him in my map, he doesn't actually need RI/NH to get to 270).

I'm not saying it's a good strategy, but if he can't win PA or VA then good strategies start to become pretty scarce, and this is better than nothing.

Only one poll showed him 7 behind, and that poll was from 2.5 months ago, which makes it useless today. Historically, Connecticut has always voted for the Democratic candidate by a wide margin; and the demographics are unfavorable to Republicans. Even locally, Republicans don't win here.

You're comparing CT polls from back when PA was tied to current PA polls. It should be incredibly obvious why that is problematic. And obviously there's no scenario in which CT will be the decisive state. That's like saying Hillary should focus on Kansas on her route to 270 because a recent poll showed her "only down 5" there.

trump is not down by "only" 7 points in CT, I'm certain he is losing it by more than that.
It's completely unattainable by trump. 100% waste of time.

The struggle is real for Donald Trump. I love watching him squirm as electoral vote after electoral vote slips away.

Why would he squirm, I'm almost certain at this point he is only in this to destroy the GOP from the inside and help Hillary win.

Trump won't win Connecticut, he'll make it closer due to some Jewish voters who like him.

I was running some computer-generated simulations on 270towin.com, and you'll never guess what just happened:

Stupid idea by Trump.  Although CT was only leaning Clinton last I checked, it will go Democrat by a landslide in the end.  Why doesn't Trump focus on states he can actually make it close in, like Georgia? To quote Spock, it is "highly illogical".
