I don't consider 600k "nearly a million." I mean, yeah, if you round up.

Presumably the point is a lot of Berniebros saw Hillary as pure evil because she was wealthy.

Good for him; he deserves this after working so long and hard to scam millions of people. A righteous ending.

I have no problem with this. This isn't a particularly expensive house, nor did he ever call for the nationalization of the wealthy's physical property as much as he did about punishing them with taxes. Good for him, I hope he enjoys the good life there.

Oh, I forgot, you can't be a socialist and have nice things.  Thank you, Atlas.

I'm pretty sure nobody thinks she is evil only because she is wealthy.  One of the many (many) things pointing in that direction perhaps, but not just the wealth.  Maybe a top 10 reason for a lot of lefties, but in very few top 5s.

This is a little disappointing.  But I didn't put him up on a pedestal and expect everyone to be frail/hypocritical, and he was still the best choice on policy, which is the point.  His character isn't that important to me.

Bill Clinton cheated on his wife and probably assaulted people, FDR treated women like sh**t, GW and TJ owned slaves, etc etc.  Doesn't make what they said/advocated for not right.

I, uh, wouldn't say buying a summer home, no matter if the optics are a bit odd, amounts to any of that.

Sure, of course in terms of degree, it's orders of magnitude smaller.  But you understand the principle.

So what? It isn't Bernie's fault that the Government overpays Senators. And no sane person would turn down a large paycheck.

I really don't understand the issue here. Bernie has been a well-paid member of Congress for decades, in addition to whatever money his wife has brought in. If he wants to spend some of that, what is the big deal? It's not even like this is some extravagant purchase, either.

Or am I missing something here? Is he not allowed to enjoy the fruits of his labor? Perhaps then he should then relinquish his assets and live in a box behind the Capitol building. I mean look at those suits he wears. A real man of the people dons a burlap sack to work.

I had no problem with Hillary taking her salary when she was senator. I do have a problem with her being paid to give speeches to institutions and corporations that have ulterior motives and are clearly affecting her policy. Bernie on the other hand is being paid by We The People, not Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase.

As you said, no sane person would turn down a big check solely for giving a speech about their time as America's top diplomat.

Yes, former high-ranking officials are doing it all time and, frankly, I'd rather have them making easy money on retirement than use their offices for personal gain when they were in power.

This is dumb, who cares if he bought a house.  Unless it's with donor money it's perfectly fine.

Reports I've read suggest this was something Jane really wanted, and they got the money from a dead relative of hers.  I don't judge people for the stuff they own (well, if you're a televangelist or clergy member living in an eight-figure mansion, then I have some questions) even though I probably would've used the money on something else if it were my decision.

I think Nix raises some valid points here.  Nobody really needs to own an obscenely large residence (though that's certainly their right) and coming from a fairly privileged background growing up in a three-story household that proved to be way too big for three people, I can attest to the fact that owning large homes don't always bring people happiness and they often (as me and my mom learned when we sold the place after my dad died in it) cause a lot more stress long-term.  I never want to live in a big house ever again and I would recommend against doing so to anyone who considers it.

Just my two cents.  I hope Bernie and his family enjoy their new home together and I would politely ask the people bashing him for it to STFU.
