So what's next for Donna Edwards now that she has lost the Maryland Senate Democratic Primary?

Does she have a political future?

Cardin's seat in 2018. Elijah Cummings will probably want that seat badly as well, so I'm not sure she'd win that primary either. Otherwise she could wait a while and then run for Governor in 2022.

John Sarbanes probably wants Cardin's seat (previously held by his father) when he retires, too.

I could see Edwards learning from her mistakes and winning out in 2018.

I think Cummings quite likes his seniority in the House. Even if he's back in the minority.

She made too many enemies in congress, and Van Hollen made so many friends in congress and elsewhere that he just blew her out of the water. I mean, I think she could get her seat back someday, but idk.

From my understanding, she didn't have enough institutional support throughout the state. She also seemed to hinge a lot of her opportunity on Bernie's back this cycle but there aren't enough young, college voters to win the primary without wider statewide institutional support.
