It look like Republican Donald Trump can hurt Sheriff Joe Arpaio's reelection bid in Maricopa County, Arizona along with John McCain's Senate campaign. His Democratic challenger Paul Penzone is beating him 45 to 42. Could Arpaio finally lose this year?

Except Arpaio is actually underperforming Trump by a lot.

Oh yes. This may be the year that Arpaio loses.

Good news.  Get him out of there and in 4 years maybe a decent Republican can win.

Bringing partisan party loyalty into nonpolitical races like sheriff does nothing but allow idiots like Arpaio to succeed.

Even though I actually agree with Joe Arpaio on a few issues, he's a horrible human being and is over 80 years old.

He framed a poor schmuck for a fake assassination attempt that didn't actually happen.

He probably wouldn't survive another term, tbh. I do hope he loses though. He's made a mockery of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department.

I do not know if Paul Penzone would get rid of the tent city jail cells though, as it would be very expensive to make the conversion. I have faint memories in 2012 of Penzone saying he would not seek to get rid of the tent cities, but I could be wrong.

Still, I would be thrilled to see Arpaio lose this election. His margins get narrower easy year. Hopefully this November is when he is fired.

Are there any Republicans that can challenge Arpaio's position?

I think he does have a primary challenger, I thought I saw that somewhere.
