The poll voters are total losers. That was a magnificent work of art that should be studied for years to come. Holy cow. I'm stunned.

The speech will definitely help Trump. It was focused, disciplined, covered a lot of ground and wooed varied constituencies. He didn't degenerate to the baser instincts and focused on visions of a better country.

Of course his premise is still wrong, the promises were made without a clear idea of how to achieve them and there were quite a few statements that contradicted each other.

However all that is for another day. Tonight he did well and will definitely get a bounce out of it!

We were clearly listening to different speeches.

As a speech, good.

Got Republicans to cheer a lot of liberal stuff.

A lot of bad things in it that I disagree with, but it worked.

Meh. He did a decent job, did no harm, but it wasn't exceptional.

I'm surprised HS is winning.

I disagree with the message behind Donald Trump's speech, but it was still an undeniably great speech that will slightly help in the polls.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to damn long.

My God. Say what you want about Mitt Romney, at least he knew when to finish a damn acceptance speech.

I felt it was overly long and incoherent. HS.

No, we listened to the same speech. I don't necessarily agree with many things he said, but am just parking subjective feelings and looking at this objectively. The speech WILL help Trump with voters.

I knew that everyone eventually would start loving Trump. Next week this whole board will be calling Hillary Clinton's speech horrible. Bank on it.

Lol. I think this will help marginally. I don't see this pulling support FROM Hillary Clinton. I think he's given Hillary and the Democrats SO much material for next week.

Too dark and dystopian. I know people are losing their jobs and are suffering, but I just think there's not enough people that are receptive to this. It was also weirdly boring, considering its Trump, and wayyy too long.

Why do people think this is a speech that will help Trump?

It was too long.
Trump's register was strained and ultra-negative. In his rallies he can improvise with levity, but that was completely lacking.
The issues he focused on (crime???) are not going to win over swing-voters.

I honestly think he lost the election tonight.

He had the chance to turn his campaign around; but he failed and most likely lost the election now. The speech was too damn long to a point I lost interest about 30 minutes in. Hillary will have a better more positive speech next week.

Much too negative. A good convention speech drums up support and inspires people to vote for the candidate, not scare them into it.

Believe it or not, the WORST thing you can do in politics is talk for too long! It should be all the dystopian garbage he's been peddling but once people tune out, that's it. People stop listening after 45 minutes regardless

It was pretty much a normal Trump speech. But it went on way too long which hurts him with the "low information voters" he is likely targeting. It was also too negative. Haven't the most successful convention speeches historically been upbeat "we can do it!" type speeches? I don't see him getting much of a bounce, but I don't think it will really "hurt" him since it was pretty much what everyone was expecting.

Hopefully Hillary Clinton has a successful convention and gets a real bounce out of it to give her a big lead in the polls.

It was beautiful - it was the sound of a man taking a sledgehammer to the old GOP.

The reason why it will help him is that he was disciplined and on point. To many wavering voters Trump comes across as an inept reality TV entertainer (including yours truly Smiley). In fact, Clinton's main premise has been that Trump is not up to the task and simply a huge risk.

Tonight he came across as a slightly smaller risk, while hitting every downtrodden constituency for their vote. It will also help by making people forget Melania's plagiarism, Cruz's non-endorsement and other fun things from the convention

Trump was convincing, enthusiastic, passionate.  The speech was well prepared; it is sure to produce a positive impact on voters.

The old line is "I'd like to hear that speech in the original German."

I predict Rapist Trump is going to indeed get a negative convention bounce.

It will if Trump's campaign turns out to be performance art done as a satire of demagogues and nativists. Otherwise.......
