Doesn't hurt Gregg, but increases Republican odds of holding the governorship.

Lean help, since he does not have to run against an incumbent.

On balance, his odds probably haven't changed. He doesn't have the benefit of running against an unpopular incumbent, but he probably has a structural advantage, since the new Republican will have to catch up in fundraising and organization.

Since Pence will constantly be in the spotlight, Gregg can essentially tie the GOP challenger to the Trump-Pence idiocy, AND, Pence's record as a failure in Indiana. I say it's a double win.

Helps Gregg a little bit, but I'm not sure it would be enough for him to win the governorship.

Help. Unseating incumbents is more difficult in most cases than defeating another challanger.

An option for the Republicans could be that Pence resigns and elevates his Lt. Governor (who ever this is?) to the chief executive's chair, who runs as the incumbent for reelection. As I see it, the Lt. Gov. is not in the race?

It hurts Gregg. Generic R like Holcomb or Brooks beats Gregg. Pence was favored to win anyway and he had alienated a lot of lean R suburbanites, which is the core of the Indiana GOP. Both Brooks and Holcomb would get back to almost 70 % in the suburbs which is what Romney got (Daniels got like 80 %). Pence got in the low 60s I believe.

Small help. It's wholly possible the IN GOP will be without a gubernatorial candidate for a month, and that's a long time in politics. Gregg can build a new platform that's more than "I am not Mike Pence," and it means whoever the GOP candidate is will have little time to establish statewide name ID.
