Is the destruction and annihilation of culture in the US inevitable?

The answer is basically yes. The reason being is that not only are cultural traditions that are not self-selected been on the decline for a long time, but most Millennials already don't care about them in the slightest. So imagine when Millennials become the dominant generation. The next generation will mostly be people who grow up with only a passing familiarity to their "culture" and will probably think what sports teams people support is a bigger impact on their culture than their ethnic heritage, and the idea of ingrained culture will become a very antiquated old-fashioned notion.

And then people's cultural identity will become COMPLETELY self-selected, and everyone will be broken of the chains of culture and have complete freedom to choose their own identity, and it'll be a truly wonderful thing.

People do not have the freedom to completely choose their own identity, because identity will always be bound, ultimately, to whom you are born and where you are born. Some people may escape that more than others, but you can never entirely 'self select your identity', because it is so often determined by circumstances that are totally beyond your control.

A big part of the issue seems to be that "culture" doesn't mean what you think it means. Specifically what you are talking about is a very narrow subset of it.

Is there a more cultural traditionalist candidate than Bernie Sanders? He just reeks of a far bygone era of radical old Jewish men reading Socialist newspapers in Yiddish and trying to awkwardly inject themselves into labor disputes. Bernie Sanders is about the most old-fashioned, traditional, throwback candidate out of the whole two-dozen odd of them.

No BRTD the collective culture is not becoming annihilated, in fact the creation of mass media and standardised education have resulted in it becoming less heterogene. A author archetypes can through mass education become universal among a population, while mass media have allowed the spread of things like Black Friday or St. Patricks day.

That's kind of point. Mass media means people are no longer locked into a culture they are born into. They're free to select and associate with aspects of others they want to and simply choose whatever they like best. Your heritage becomes a non-factor.
