Some interesting points related to the convention...

So even with the endorsement and a prime-time speech, could there still be a floor fight/minority report over TPP?

The White House is forbidding current Cabinet members from speaking at the convention:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/04/us/politics/white-house-prohibits-cabinet-from-addressing-democratic-convention.html?_r=1

So no speeches from, for example, Castro, Perez, or Vilsack (unless they're the VP nominee).

It doesn't really look like there is going to be a massive floor fight over the platform at this point. The delegates coming looking for a tussle are probably going to be disappointed.

Sanders wants a floor fight on TPP.

Seems reasonable. Too bad this thinking doesn't extend to flying Clinton around on Air Force One; sorry, but that should be out-of-bounds.

I don't see the problem as long as its reimbursed by the campaign/DNC. The President doesn't stop being President, even if he's doing a campaign event as his unofficial role as party leader. Air Force One allows for all the protections necessary for the President, that he couldn't get if he flew domestic or in another private plane. Clinton was in DC before he left, so it makes sense that she came with. It's no different than when Obama/Biden brought Rubio with them on Air Force One when they went down to Orlando after the shooting.

Would a (not too chaotic) floor fight over TPP necessarily be harmful to Clinton? A high-profile conflict, possibly in prime time, might give her room to continue campaigning as a TPP skeptic without it seeming like she is personally rebuking Obama's presidency. It would also emphasize that the Democratic Party has changed its stance this issue in a way that's sure to receive plenty of media attention.

I suppose you're right. I admit to letting my visceral response to seeing Hillary Clinton stepping down off of Air Force One cloud my judgement...

Is anyone really a single-issue voter on TPP?  Nobody even understands it.  I feel like a lot of the people who hate Hillary for it would just find some other reason to vote against her if they couldn't use that.

The convention needs to be just like the 2012 convention.  Some weird side moments to let the base blow off steam (like the Israel vote in 2012) but mostly well-crafted prime-time speeches from the party's biggest stars praising the nominee to the heavens and destroying the opposition.  If you think Hillary wants anything other than that you're overthinking it.

Opposition to the TPP isn't as much about Clinton as it is about it being perceived as a rebuke of President Obama, who we all should remember is the guy negotiating the thing. He's staked his reputation on it and nobody in Democratic leadership wants the party platform to so soundly rebuke the sitting president, especially when TPP had significant support among Democrats in Congress.

Something noteworthy about Sanders endorsement and how it relates to the convention...

But to what degree would it be convenient for the party to drop support for TPP as long as they don't need to take personal responsibility for that happening? I just wonder whether there might be a sense that they can use popular pressure as an excuse for shifting the party to avoid conflict or distrust among the people who are leading it.

As far as I know the platform isn't supporting the TPP so much as not opposing it, essentially leaving it up to the congresscritters to decide how they will vote. Of course even if opposition makes it into the platform nobody's mind will be changed and the platform isn't binding on anyone, so it is essentially just a shot across the bow towards Obama.

There's a rumor that the TX Democratic party sent out this tentative schedule of speakers for the DNC:

Monday - Elizabeth Warren
Tuesday - Bill Clinton and Bernie Sanders
Wednesday - Barack Obama and the VP nominee
Thursday - Hillary Clinton

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon should speak at the convention about rural issues.

Obviously this is not the entire list of speakers. More than six people will speak at the convention.

DNC should give their senate hopefuls in toss-up seats some primetime slots.

Agreed, unfortunately you wouldn't be able to do that for some states like Florida or California (yes I know it's not a toss-up).

They'd have no problem throwing Grayson under the bus.
