I only know Cornel West as writer about post-analytic philosophy and the rest of Rorty's nonsense, and I'm sure his political views are as inconsistent as his philosophical ones.

Happy to see Zogby and anyhow this will be the Dems most progressive platform in a while

The odds of me voting for Trump in November continue to climb...

Yes, we get it, you're a Democrat who doesn't support many of the Democratic party's positions/politicians. What do you want, a congratulations?

No, I'm saying that I'm highly disappointed in the committee that was selected, especially by Sanders. What do you want? For me to leave the party?

My response was in reference to all your posts over the past month or so, including, but not limited to, the one I quoted. You have been threatening to do exactly that (leave the party/vote Trump) in almost every post you make. I just don't know what you're trying to accomplish here. To express your dissatisfaction with the direction the Democratic Party is going? Because most of us are reasonably happy with the current Democratic platform... so you're not going to get very far with that. Whether you choose to leave the party, or stick with it, that's your prerogative. I'm certainly not in a position to tell you what party to identify with. I'm just saying you've repeated your spiel time and time again, and I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish.

This is the "party of diversity and inclusiveness" everyone!

Now you see why my state went from solid D to solid R. Ever since Bill Clinton the Democratic Party has become an anti-white hate group that wants to expel anyone who doesn't tow the line and dares to express an independent thought. Your alienation of white working class blue collar coal mining Reagan Democrats will be your undoing in November.

I welcome Santander over to our side. Smiley

To be honest, this is a pretty good platform committee all around. I really like the way that all moderates have basically been purged. There's not even a single Joe Manchin-Ben Nelson blue dog type, unless I am missing someone.

It is majority women as well, no thanks to Bernie's 4/5 male picks!

I actually advocated for banning this guy a few days ago.

Anyway, can we ban Rick Grimes and "Angrie", please? They're obvious socks.

You mean most of the liberals here are happy with the D platform. Self-identified moderates and conservatives still outnumber liberals in the Democratic Party, and America is a center-right country. Sanders owes just as much to cultural conservatives as he does to liberals and socialists for his success in the primaries, and it is a mistake for the Democratic Party to move in the direction it is moving in because they are painting themselves into a corner.

Or maybe the party starts to emphasize class issues more than southern-alienating identity politics because of sanders' efforts, and becomes less of a corporate party, and white working folk flock back to the Democratic party.

This is the exact spiel I was talking about. Saying it over and over doesn't make it true. You say it's a mistake for the Democratic Party to move in the direction it's moving, but it's moving there, and there are plenty of us who are happy that it is doing so. Social issues are extremely important to me and many other Democrats. I suspect you're wrong that Democratic support will wane as social issues become a bigger focus, but I guess only time will tell for sure.

Sanders picking Cornell West perfectly encapsulates his hilarious tone-deafness when it comes to appealing to minority voters.

It could also be that they were friends and west is probably the one famous public intellectual that best matches up with his politics and one of a handful of American democratic socialists.

Oh just kidding, I forgot, Bernie is a racist old codger, and he endorsed similar black left-winger Jesse Jackson in the 80s just to appeal to black voters in Vermont and build up his street cred with black folk for an eventual presidential run.

I don't know if you saw the exit polls for almost all of the primaries/caucuses this year, but Liberals now outnumber Moderates/Conservatives in almost all states. In many places by a lot. Examples of Liberal vs Moderates/Conservatives from some notable primaries:

Florida: 54-46
Indiana: 68-29
Iowa: 68-32
Michigan: 57-43
Mississippi: 51-49
Missouri: 66-34
Nevada: 70-30
New Hampshire: 68-32
North Carolina: 56-44
Ohio: 59-41
Pennsylvania:66-34
Tennessee: 61-32
Texas: 59-41
Virginia: 68-32
Wisconsin: 67-32

Only three examples with exit polling where this wasn't the case:

Arkansas: 50-50
Oklahoma: 45-55
West Virginia 45-55

It's pretty funny Bernie won the only two that have a moderate/conservative majority.

That likely won't be the case anymore in 10 years or so. Once Millennials/GenZ constitute a solid majority of the voting electorate (by 2024+), then the country will surely vote like it's center-left and many of the issues they take up will certainly not be right-wing.

So the Democratic party moving left right now isn't exactly inappropriate. It's like a car flipping on its turn signal before merging.

Edit: I feel it's worth mentioning that the party platform shouldn't consist mainly of policies that are only desired by a minority of the party. There should be a consensus on a fair amount of the issues (obviously not all, though)

The following has been accepted for the platform:
- Abolition of the death penalty
- Expansion of Social Security
- Raise minimum wage to $15/hour and index it (referring to the current minimum wage of $7.25 an hour as a "starvation wage")
- Updated and modernized version of Glass-Steagall
- Two-state solution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict that guarantees Israel's security with recognized borders and provides the Palestinians with independence, sovereignty, and dignity.

Following has been rejected:
- Opposition to TPP
- Tax on carbon
- National moratorium on fracking

Not everything that I would have wanted, but not an awful start.
