How can he do that? I don't think it will be very easy. Who are the sort of people who voted twice for Obama but would consider voting for Trump?

Maybe moderates who are against trade deals? That's a good place to start.

Win in places like IL-17 and IL-3, blue-collar white districts in northern states

He doesn't really. He needs two time (or one time) Obama voters to stay home, and to bring new people in.

I don't really think that's plausible, because it would depend on mobilising groups that are the most low-information and the least likely to vote. Not really a dependable category.

The default answer to this is "muh working class whites"

Win in places like IL-17 and IL-3, blue-collar white districts in northern states

No those places don't matter because he's not winning Illinois anyway.

I know a handful of Obama 2012 Trump 2016 voters personally. Of course, it's just a handful of people in Ohio. I actually get the impression he's really well liked up here compared to places like Colorado or Virginia.

I mean places like those two districts (white working class). I only like used Illinois districts as an example because I am familiar with them since I have lived here nearly my entire life.

If anyone can do it, it's a celebrity candidate.

I'm going to trust my senses now.

I work in a county in FL that was Obama 2012/Trump 2016.  The enthusiasm for Trump was unmistakable, yet the polls and pundits considered Clinton the likely FL victor.

I saw this coming, but became distracted by the noise.  Reaganfan is right; this election should not have been a shocker.

My father is a two time Obama voter (also voted for Gore & Kerry) and he was solidly for Trump from the day he announced.

Concerns about immigration/Hillary scandals.
