What happens in a 2008 scenario with switched running mates?

Biden/Obama 388
Palin/McCain 150

This is being very generous to the GOP. Palin is just too kooky to be at the top of a ticket.

This map is probably too generous to Republicans.

Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK)/Sen. John McCain (R-AZ): 134 EVs, 39% PV

The country was much less polarized in 08 than it is now. When you combine the economic collapse with Bush's 25% approval rating, an utter moron like Palin at the top of the ticket, and racial resentment being decreased drastically by Obama being at the bottom of the ticket rather than the top and Dems nominating a "safe" white guy with some blue collar appeal, I don't see any way this doesn't end up as a massive landslide.

500-38, although Texas could swing back the other way.

Joe Biden/Barack Obama (D) - 409 EV, 58.8%
Sarah Palin/John McCain (R) - 129 EV, 39.6%

Biden gets near unanimous support from Democrats, wins Independents 2-1, and peels off nearly 20% of Republicans. The closest state is Texas which Palin barely wins over Biden, although it could honestly go either way.

I think had it been Biden/Obama vs. Palin/McCain, I think this would have been the map, with maybe South Carolina in the Republican column as well, so I think had the election been between Biden and Palin, Biden would have won 444 electoral votes to Sarah Palin's 94, and I think he would have won 58%-61% of the popular vote.
