In 1964, Johnson beat Nelson Rockefeller in the general. Ernest Hollings ran an independent, segregationist campaign under the American Independence banner. Johnson has decided to seek a second term and has captured the Democratic nomination. Barry Goldwater has captured the Republican nomination. George Wallace has taken up the American Independence banner. Who wins in this mess of an election?

Wallace wins MS, AL. Maybe SC if he can convince Thurmond to run with him.

What about LA, AR and GA? I think he'd take those.

Goldwater's appeal was very strong in the South.

I think the only reason he took those states in '64 was simply because he wasn't the civil rights supporting Johnson. You could've put Space Ghost up as the Republican nominee and he still would've swept the South, no problem.

Wallace wouldn't run if Goldwater was the nominee.
