It would take a massive landslide and lots of effort (or maybe even time. Who knows) for its non-dominant party to win it in a Prez election, but it also isn't shocking or even out of the ordinary for it to elect members of the party that keeps failing to win it in said Prez elections. It is also possible that they may actually switch allegiances in future EV maps.

No, all states will be socialist havens eventually if all goes according to plan.

No, the GOP's pretty much done up there on that level.

But Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania the GOP seem to keep trying and failing at as the Dems do Arizona.

The perfect storm on Friday the 13th with a blue moon could lead to the GOP winning there

Maine as a whole is Likely D, yes, but not Safe D. Arizona is Likely R, but not Safe R. Unfortunately, in Maine's case, LePage isn't helping whatsoever.

Yes.

However, Maine is more similar to Alaska or Montana, as it's a three EV state which elects mavericks(Angus King, Lisa Murkowski, Begich, Schweitzer, Walker) but mostly votes for one party Presidentially. Also, AK and ME both have good third party and independent showings.

Yes. I think ME will vote to the right of NH very soon and it's also much more elastic than NH. Wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a swing state sooner or later. Now of course it would take a massive wave for the GOP to win ME-01, so they'd probably only get 3 of the 4 EV.

IIRC, wasn't Maine one of Perot's best states?

Yep. He placed 2nd there and almost won a congressional district.

And Utah was his best.

Yeah I'd say Maine is more like Montana. For me, Arizona's equivalent is Minnesota and Michigan: one party is definitely favored for all offices, but the other party will pick up some occasional wins.

No, Perot did better in Maine both in terms of vote share and raw vote total.

I'd say that Minnesota is the Democratic Arizona since the Republicans keep trying to turn it red in presidential elections and yet fail. They even held the Republican National Convention in Minnesota in 2008 for that reason. Minnesota voted for Barack Obama in that same year and Norm Coleman lost his Senate seat after a number of recounts. In 2012, Mitt Romney also tried to turn Minnesota red and failed. Minnesota voted for Democrat Mark Dayton as Governor in 2010 and 2014 even though those were Republican-leaning years.

No, Democrats have a better chance of winning Arizona than Republicans have at winning Maine.

Let's not forget PVI:

A R/D+7 state that will occasionally elect the opposite party and may be trending toward the middle:

Illinois is the equivalent of Arizona
