Easily the most overrated Founding Father, especially among conservatives for some reason (nothing is inherently conservative about small government or being from the South, LOL), but I don't know if he's an HP.

Jefferson was full of s**t on so many things, but the slavery issue is perhaps the most telling. Just let's compare him with George Washington, whose views gradually evolved from accepting slavery as something "obvious" to opposing it. He did not mistreat his slaves and, before death, he actually freed them. Jefferson was a hypocrite full of noble slogans. Was he worse than many other Virginia gentlemen? No, but that doesn't make him a nice guy.

My opinion is much lower than it used to be.  I've voted FF in the past, but now I voted HP.

I'd view Jefferson much more favorably if he had freed his slaves like Washington did.
