Most definitely, wanting to protect the life of a baby is not the same as trying to hate the woman doing the abortion.

Not really, no. Considering the extreme rhetoric we so often hear from the pro-life side in public discourse, it's a reasonable interpretation to assume that one might support this kind of punishment. Having to choose between standing by it or explaining why it's not relevant is a good way to come to a more nuanced view of the issue.
