After a masterful primary campaign, Governor Jerry Brown of California locked up the Democratic nominee, and proceeded to surprise the pundits by choosing Senator Paul Wellstone, who had only been elected 2 years prior, as his running mate. Incumbent President Bush not only had to defend against Brown, but also independent candidate Ross Perot, who, after surging in the polls, has fallen to around 20 percent, drawing votes from both candidates. Who will be able to pull off a victory?

Jerry Brown. Would have been the best choice for 1992.

In a major victory, the Brown/Wellstone ticket took 274 electoral votes, just enough to keep the election from going to the house, and as if it couldn't get better for the Democratic Party, Ross Perot lived up to the hype enough to get George H. W. Bush a third place finish in both the popular vote and the electoral vote.
