Many things wrong and problematic with the statement (the optics My God...), but let's start with the obvious: it's going to be really hard to put 'a lot of coal miners' out of work because there are no longer a lot of coal miners.

Is there anything Clinton could do worse than producing a soundbyte that will drive the margins up in GOP-heavy southeastern Ohio and driving turnout up there when OH is likely the most Trump-friendly swing state?

So, will the WV Dem nominee for Governor endorse the GOP nominee for president this fall?

What for? Is s/he planning to win or merely wants to be in some Democratic Committee?

Terrible soundbite, although it's a reasonable statement in full context. It could've become a big deal if Manchin was up for re-election but he isn't, so there's no real loss.

If she does become President, then it could hurt any WV Democrats who side with her.

That has to hurt in some upcoming primaries.

IMO the KY and WV Dems should go all the way and rebrand as the Farmer-Labor Party and openly campaign as social conservatives.  The reps in VRA districts in those states could stay with the national Dems if they prefer.  This might also be worth doing in OK and AR.

Well, Republicans in the Northeast have not rebranded themselves Progressives till this day Smiley

I doubt it, they're either voting in the republican primary or voting for Bernie(which is ironic since Bernie would be worse for the coal industry) anyway so...

I got it,

Besides she says she wants to 'not forget' about the people who lose jobs due to clean energy demands

HIllary Clinton: emulating Margaret Thatcher.

Thatcher is vilified in Wales and other parts for the UK for putting the miners out of business and destroying communties. Apparently if it was for clean energy though, that makes destroying communities and putting them on permanent welfare okay.

Sanders will now get over 80% in the WV primary, and probably about 60% in Kentucky. And no question this soundbyte will show up in Trump's attack ads in the fall, even though in context it actually isn't terrible.

Not a great choice of words, but she did talk about creating new jobs for coal miners out of work. Also, there aren't a ton of people working in coal mines anymore. It's not like the healthcare sector.

Why do communities in West Virginia matter more than communities in Alaska and Florida?

I assumed it was a reference to the fact that a little more than a year ago a bunch of the racist Hillary hacks on this board were cackling about how Hillary was going to do very well in WV and AR and KY because she is white ... and Bill.

So, is this statement getting any play in the media or is it just another Atlas-made tempest in a teapot?

I saw some online news articles about it. Not sure otherwise.

This thread is pretty hilarious now that Hillary just swept coal country in Ohio.

I'm sure it will still cause her to get -15% of the vote in West Virginia though.
