let's say in 2016 trump narrowly takes the election over sanders (and an establishment-republican ticket that draws 5-10% of the vote). he manages to form an uneasy working relationship with the democratic-held senate but nonetheless is a deeply polarising president from the very beginning. republicans face moderate to severe losses in 2018 (possibly even one or two senate seats) and at about this time, joe biden comes out of retirement to run for president and easily takes the nomination over an uninspiring field (cuomo? gillibrand? castro?). trump probably dispatches a mid-tier challenger as well (let's say an establishment-conservative, perhaps rubio again)

what happens? discuss with maps

Biden would be the Dems best bet this time around, seeing as how he's the perfect counter to Trump.

Exept he's the incumbent under this scenario and he'd be in similar age to Reagan in 84.
