Kasich, unlike Rubio, has served the people of his state well.  They won't humiliate him next week.

If Rubio did drop most of that 7% probably goes to Kasich. If anything the benefit would come in other states such as Illinois. Kasich has actually been campaigning there, he must think he has Ohio if he is going there as well.

Kasich was in Ohio yesterday evening, when he took a picture with me.

I'm thinking the Ohio political organization will deliver Ohio for Kasich pretty reliably. But that margin is nothing to sneeze at - TRUMP only within 5!

Hard to see him lose with an approval rating like that...jesus.

For a sitting governor who has been on the campaign trail for the better part of year, those numbers are astronomical.

This is a good poll for Kasich, but if he only barely wins Ohio after placing third in Michigan, where does he go from there? Pennsylvania? I really don't see any other plausible wins for him, never mind a path to the nomination.

I can't believe that people would prefer Kasich, a man who wants war with Syria and Russia, to Trump, a man who wants to spend money to repair this country rather than tear apart other nations.

Nobody believes he has a path to the nomination, not even Kasich himself. It's all about a brokered convention now.

Yes, that's really the only way anyone but Trump gets enough delegates.

Beautiful.

We got into this question back in the summer,

Bush isn't going to win South Carolina after losing IA and NH, but he (or Rubio) could possibly, unlike Giuliani, win Florida despite not winning any previous states.

No. Noooo.

Feb 1: Iowa caucuses
Feb 9: New Hampshire
Feb 20: South Carolina
Feb 23: Nevada caucuses
Mar 1: Super Tuesday (Alabama, Minnesota caucuses, Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho caucuses, Massachusetts, North Carolina, North Dakota caucuses, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont)
Mar 5: Kansas caucuses, Louisiana, Washington caucuses
Mar 8: Hawaii caucuses, Michigan, Mississippi
Mar 15: Ohio, Florida, Illinois

There's no way either of those candidates fail continually for six weeks and then magically win Florida. The home state advantage is nowhere near that strong in the modern era.

If all contests are being won by establishment-enemies Cruz and Trump, how long would an establishment candidate stay in the race despite not having won a single state? I think, in light of the report of GOP leaders willing to derail a possible Trump nomination on the floor, it's plausible someone like Rubio (or Jeb or Kasich if either looks stronger coming out of NH) would be persuaded to hang on until their homestate votes on March 15 (and are WTAs).

The problem is that if he can't get more wins than just Ohio, and is very far behind in delegates, he doesn't have a very strong case that he should be the nominee, even if Rubio drops out.

Keep in mind, this is only Republican primary voters being polled.  Obviously if you polled all voters, his approval number wouldn't be so high.

You're right, no path to the nomination for him besides a contested convention.  But is it possible for him to get *any* wins after Ohio?  Sure, if Rubio drops out and frees up some more voters, and Trump and Cruz stay mostly focused on attacking each other, Kasich could potentially win some more states somewhere, though yeah, I don't know exactly which states.  But I mean, there are plenty of states that don't vote until May or June, and that's a lot of time for things to change.

Concern troll...

I'm a lot of things, but I've never been a concern troll. Kasich's warmongering rhetoric in the (December?) debate disgusted me, while Trump has been calling out the Republicans on their lies about Iraq, and making it clear he wants no more wars. I don't get why anyone who isn't a neo-con would prefer Kasich.

Christie was pretty badly underwater with Republican voters in NJ largely because of his pathetic campaigning.

Yeah, but who can make a strong case? Trump and Cruz who the establishment hates with every fiber of their being? Rubio who is imploding and is likely to lose his home state and exit the race? Romney who didn't even have the guts to run?
