If Sam Nunn, the former Georgia senator, was 20 years younger, and had been reelected in 1996, 2002, 2008, and 2014, and had ran for president this year in 2016, how would he have done in today's Democratic primaries as a Blue Dog Democrat?

Not even close.  Way too conservative, wouldn't appeal to minorities, liberals, and millennials necessary to the win the nomination
