Most incarceration happens at the state level, not federal. The effects of the 1994 crime bill on state policy is negligible. There is very little that the federal government can do regarding "tough on crime" laws except budgetary gimmicks.

I'm not sure why both of them are attacking each other on this issue when it makes both of them look bad, and either way is a ridiculously murky issue.

It's a good thing the hacks on this forum aren't the ones on the debate stage. Then it probably would be as bad as the GOP debates.

Bernie and Hillary hacks will be happy. Despite the shouting and sniping, it's still 1000x more substantive than any GOP debate.

It's been that way for the entire cycle. When most debates are done I feel more confidant about both candidates the Republicans.

If Hillary is the nominee, I will vote for her, but that's because she's better than what the other side is offering. If Bernie is not elected, we are screwed at least another four years.

How about ending the drug war and legalizing all drugs like it should be

Why does Bernie never bring up his Jewish background? He got into politics because he had family killed.

For whatever reason he doesn't like to bring that up and only will when asked.

For some reason people put too much into a candidate's faith or lack thereof rather than how they use it.

I'm not talking about his faith. Jews were killed because of ethnic, not religious reasons in WWII

As a neutral observer here, I find both candidates to be well prepared but Sanders is a little bit too agressive, especially since Clinton is not really hitting him as hard as she theoretically could.

I also think that there is a philosophical and practical disconnect in Sanders' principles. He was willing to vote against (an admittedly flawed) car bailout bill, because of his principles, and risk putting millions out of work?!?

He did not vote against the auto-bailout, he voted against the Wall Street Ballot.

To a large degree, there was a lot of luck involved when it comes to Clinton being able to take credit for a robust economy in the 1990s (just like GWB had a lot of bad luck with an economy collapsing while he was still in office). The bubble had already popped by the time he left office. The reality, however, is that a lot of the "bad luck" on GWB's part - and the erosion of much of our economy in the 2000s and beyond - was put on that trajectory by Clinton Administration policies in the 1990s. While GWB did a ton of damage in his own right, he never would have gotten as far as he did had it not been for his predecessor.

I honestly wish our debate could be this civil. Probably would have been without Donald John Trump.

Again, he voted against the Bush auto bailout.
He voted for the Obama auto bailout a few months later.

This poor woman asked Sanders a detailed question about schools and he starts with "let me be very honest, a great nation is not judged by how many millionaires and billionaires it has."
He just never stops does he?  He had to get that in there.
