When they are in the closet no, but when they come out they will most likely be more openminded and tolerant. Of course there are a lot exceptions to this.

Except that you didn't. There's no "no" vote in yet.

While I voted "yes", I actually agree with your point. They are at current more liberal than the general population, but only marginally so. They are voting heavily Democratic of course, but that's due to economic interests and a hate campaign from part of the Republicans. They don't split nearly as partisanly in Europe.

In average? Yes, they probably do.

But not necessarily because they want to, but because they pretty much don´t have a other choice.

Of course, this doesn´t rule out the existence of gay hard-core conservatives. Cheesy  I´m talking about statistics here.

No.  On average, homosexuals would have the same distribution curve as the general population in terms of political beliefs.  It is just that they vote Democrat because the Republicans are not actively trying to buy their votes like the Democrats are doing.

the way i look at it, it is the government that is denying gays their civil rights.

why should they be voting for the party that is a big believer in government?

In other words, they should vote Libertarian. Wink

As to the question, I can't say for certain. There are groups like the Log Cabin Republicans, after all.

I'm gay and i'm pretty right of centre politically, at least in the UK. However I would not vote for a candidate who was nothing more than a loudmouthed homophobic bigot even if he or she was similar to me on the political spectrum.

Nope, but political activist gays are more likely to be more liberal than the normal population.

I don't think that homosexuals are genetically disposed to being more liberal than the general population.  I think it looks that way because the large numbers of homosexuals who want to be able to marry, and who subsequently vote Democrat because of that issue, but if gay rights were not an issue, I doubt they would be so partisan.

Agreed, especially among younger homosexuals.  Older homosexuals, less so.

Homosexuals are probably more likely to be less religious, since religion tends to frown on them. And, if they are, they are probably less likely to be fundamentalists. I think that, generally, yes, although not all are as left-of-center as some appear to assume.

It's not just the Democrats' attitude. It's also the behaviour of part of the Republican Party. "Godhatesfags.com" doesn't win you homosexual votes...

He was more in favor of it than Bush was.  Kerry opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment while Bush supported it, which alone probably won him much of the homosexual vote.

Bush was originally against civil unions, before he did a flip flop clarified his strong and decisive position, and came out fro them.

I think gay people are less liberal than people think they are. Some have liberal ideals, but most are too inured to material ease to have the fortitude to be an agent of social change. In any case, few gays are ready to reject the political system which oppresses them if they care about politics at all.

why should they be voting for the party that is a big believer in government?

so they should vote for the party of Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell because it wants less social programs and that denies them their rights? huh?
