By this, I mean which nominee for each party would be the best worst for the country in your opinion?

My best case scenario:

Marco Rubio (R-FL) def. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)

The worst case that I can still be okay with:

Hillary Clinton (D-NY) def. Ben Carson (R-MD)

My absolute worst case:

Bernie Sanders (D-VT) def. Donald Trump (R-NY)

Best case scenario:

DONALD TRUMP wins unopposed, Democrats forfeit after the two candidates are revealed as racists.

Worst case scenario:

Ted "The Canuck" Cruz loses to either Democrat.

Best: Sanders beats Cruz, or Clinton beats Rubio (both would send a strong message to Republicans.) I would love to see Trump lose, but Republicans will surely blame his defeat on him, not the party moving light-years to the right and embracing reactionary lunacy.

Worst: Cruz wins.

Best case scenario: Trump wins the nomination but reveals he's been trolling the whole time, Rubio arrested for prostitution/corruption, Cruz arrested when the bodies hidden in his crawlspace revealed and the nomination is handed to GIFTED HANDS. Then the GOP is dissolved.

I don't care what happens to the Democrats.

Best: Clinton beats Cruz

Worst: Cruz beats Clinton

Basically, I want to see a center-left Democrat beat a far-right Republican.

Clinton calls a shock press conference, apologizes for running a negative campaign, and endorses Sanders on the spot. The Clintons announce that they will give away their entire fortune and embrace a hermetic life of self-imposed poverty and seclusion. Sanders wins the nomination in a historic landslide and chooses Tammy Baldwin as his running mate.

Trump wins nearly a majority of delegates, with just over half of the remaining delegates split between Cruz*, Rubio**, Kasich, and Romney***. However, Romney colludes with the RNC and wins the nomination, enraging a large segment of the Republican Party.

Sanders wins the the general election in one of the largest landslides in presidential history. Democrats win a 50-seat majority in Congress, every Senate election, every gubernatorial election, and a supermajority in every state house in the country. By the end of Sanders' first 100 days, he has enacted single payer healthcare, debt-free higher education, a guaranteed basic income, and raised the gas tax to $5.00 per gallon. Americans give up their cars and abandon the suburbs, flocking to newly revitalized cities and rural communities.

Sanders announces a five-year plan to convert the abandoned automobile slums into hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland and becomes the first-ever president to reach an approval rating of over 100%. The 22nd amendment is repealed and he serves as president for nearly 30 years, dying in office at the age of 101. His death is heralded across all corners of the republic, from the terraformed landscapes of Alpha Centauri to the lush, poverty-free gardens of the Antarctic Neutral Zone. To commemorate his presidency and honor his memory, "Feel the Bern" replaces "In God We Trust" as the national motto.

*Cruz is continuing his campaign from a federal prison - he's been there since late March, when it became clear that he had attempted to coordinate with the Iranian government to delay the release of captured American sailors.

**Rubio had withdrawn from the race and resigned from the Senate earlier in March, when two career-ending scandals (one financial, the other sexual) broke simultaneously. He has released his delegates.

***Romney entered the race just in time to get his name on a few late ballots and amassed a surprisingly large number of delegates in California.

Worst: Sanders beats Trump

Best: Trump vs. Clinton/Sanders, and they both do poorly, leading to an upset win by Governor Gary Johnson.

Worst: Clinton vs. Rubio, challenged by Trump as a third-partier. Clinton wins even though she doesn't get nearly half of the vote, and instead of this leading to change in electoral reform, it just creates a further stigma against third parties ala Perot and Nader.

Best scenario: Clinton wins over any Republican and crushes a right-winger big.

Worst scenario: Either Cruz, Marco or the Trumpster is elected president.

Best case: Rubio(R) somehow manages to defeat Clinton(D) and Trump(I).

Worst case: Clinton(D) defeats Trump(R), which is probably what will happen. (A close second worst would be Trump(R) defeats Clinton(D).)

^^^I couldn't have said it better myself. If your (and my) WCS happens, it will be interesting to see if the GOP and Trump begin supporting IRV and other electoral reforms.

If the election is Clinton v. Trump, I think the best thing that could happen is for Trump to win the PV and Clinton to win in the EC and be sworn in as a minority President, as Bush was in 2000.

The Best Case:
Sanders loss in Nevada, as many pundits said, was the stop of his campaign.  It seemed to prove that, though he could get a movement going, it would not take him to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  NEvertheless, he battered Clinton, staying in the campaign and releasing increasingly aggrewssive ads againsyt here.  Super Tuesday saw Sanders win few states, with Clinton gaining momentum, but with her reputation bloodied.  By March 15, though it seemed like she had the nomination locked up despite  a fight that owuld continue, she was seeming less like a viable candidate every day.  In the late states, grassroots organizations ran write-in campaigns fo r such figures as Joe Biden, Al Gore, and a host of favorite sons.  This blunted Clintons increasingly large victories.  She was the vitim of repeated attacks by the Republicans and her supposed allies in the Democrats.  When the Democrats came to Philadelphia for their Convention, no candidate had a mjaority of the delegates.  Clinton had a plurailty, followed by Sanders, Biden, Cuomo, and Gore.  Their supporters fought valiently, and the ballotting carried on.  By the fifth ballot, Biden was gaining momentum, with Clinton slipping and Sanders holding.  It became increasingly clear that no candidate would win, when the fifth ballot dragged on into the fifteenth.  In back room discussions, names were floated, and eventually Mark Warner was chosen as a compromise candidate.  Warner won within three ballots, and accepted the nomination, choosing Julian Castro as his running mate.

Meanwhile, the Republicans were having many problems.  Trumps momentum seemed unstoppable after Nevada.  Cruz and Kasich did comparatively well on Super TUesday to what pundits predicted.  Trump finally met his demise on March 10 when he finally committed a gaffe so bad that his supporters began to leave him.  Cruz experienced a surge in support, with Kasich getting some.  Rubio was largely seen as a lost cause after his failure in Florida.  Rubio dropped out on March 20, with it seeming as a three way race, with Carson being basically a nonfactor.  All of them stayed in until the Convention, fighting until South Dakota.  Like the Democrats, there would be a brokered convention for the Republicans as well, but with three viable candidates.  No candidate could get a majority, and there was little change on the first ten ballots.  Finally, Trumps support collapsed, and his delegates split in all directions.  By the 20th ballot, support for all the candidates was low, and none of them seemed viable.  Dark horse Peter King came up from behind, and managed to clinch the nomination before choosing John Bolton as his running mate.  Both seemed rather bland, and that choice was widely criticized.

The race was unique amongst modern elections because of the candidates obscurity.  Warner eventually clinched victory by a wide margin after destroying King in the debates.
