I've always assumed that the vast majority of Americans know nothing about British politics other than maaaaaaaaybe the Prime Minister's name.

You put far too much faith in the American populace's knowledge of foreign affairs. The usual meme is "Conservatives = sensible, moderate Republicans", and that the GOP should be more like them.

Most Sanders voters are probably too young to even know who Tony Blair is.  And of the Americans who actually have head of him, they're more likely to associate him with the Iraq War than anything else.  I doubt more than 10%5% of the American public even knows who he is.that he was the leader of the Labour Party lol.
