No, he is a shameless opportunist who recognizes that Republicans (and I am not talking about the establishment) are simply not ready to broaden their tent to include minorities and immigrants, so he went for the 'missing white voters' strategy instead.  In other words, the path of least resistance.

How can he be when he has such a great relationship with "The Blacks"?
Also Trump said "There's no such thing as racism anymore" so I guess that settles that.

Doesn't matter. It does not matter if he honestly believes in his heart the things that he is saying. If you go around actively stoking the flames of hatred among people who definitely do believe those things, then you are responsible for the result, and you are a racist. If you go around scapegoating another race for your own personal gain, then you are a racist regardless of whether you believe the stereotypes you are peddling. Who cares what Donald Trump actually believes?

Yes and no. I believe he holds the generic white prejudices against other races, but I don't think he hates anyone.

Probably. But to me it's a wash when rest of the remaining candidates want to throw black kids in jail for smoking pot, do mass deportation, and only care about drug abuse when lily white states like New Hampshire have a heroin epidemic, and in general are largely in support of the institutional racism that still exists in the system.

Kind of, just in the same way that he looks down on women and poor people and gays. It isn't that he believes any race is better than the other, he just looks down on everyone. And he is taking advantage of other people's racism.

No, he just sounds like one. Trump is almost a lower form of life than a racist really. He quite reminds me of Huey Long in fact.

If Trump gives Huey Long-like results (expansion of healthcare for the poor, massive building of infrastructure), I'd be ecstatic for his Presidency!

No.

He probably doesn't have any real political views. He might actually still be a liberal Democrat (like he was just as recently as 6 years ago). I doubt he actually wants to ban Muslim immigration. He probably just wants the attention and power. He knows how to play the game of Politics. He's strategically tapping into the fears of working-class whites. He knows what Republicans want to hear.

No.  It's a cheap, effortless slur that people on the left who hate Trump use to shame and intimidate anyone who dares to not jump on the Trump-hating bandwagon.

Trump has never advocated any policies that discriminate against people because of their race, nor has he ever made discriminatory or bigoted remarks about people because of their race.  What he has done is thrown Black Lives Matter protesters out of his rallies and advocated for sending illegal Mexican immigrants back to Mexico.  This policy is motivated by an aversion to a particular country, not to a particular race.  Probably the closest he's gotten is "we speak English here, god damn it, don't speak Spanish at your rallies Jeb!" but this is coming from a place of nationalism rather than racism, and Hillary herself in 2008 said English was the national language (although she awkwardly opposed making it official).

True, but that puts him into a xenophobe category.

His anti-Muslim policies are probably as bigoted as he gets, but like Wilhelm said, Islam is a religion, not a race.
Plus it's pretty apparent that he is just saying stuff like that to get to the right of the field on national security.  He wasn't advocating for any such policies until after San Bernardino.

I don't know and I don't care.

What matters is that he shamelessly exploited racism and xenophobia for political gain in a way even the worst Republicans hadn't been doing since the 1980s. In a way, that makes it even worse if he's not personally racist.

You can be opposed to the religion of Islam without being racist.  I don't think TRUMP is opposed to Islam, though, just radical Islamic terrorism.  TRUMP is a nationalist and a patriot and wants to keep America safe.

It's funny, this forum used to be all about how George Wallace was not racist, but now that the left wing political revolution and her inevitable highness are being threatened, I guess Donald Trump is.

If he wins he'd be the most racist president of the last 50 years.
