Polls in South Carolina will be open from 7am to 7pm Eastern.

At 5pm, the networks will be given access to the early exit poll numbers.  So some time between about 5:10 and 5:30pm or so, we’ll start getting news reports from them about things like what percentage of the voters are Independents, what the top issues on voters’ minds are, etc.  But they’ll withhold the topline numbers (who is winning the exit poll) until after all the polls have closed at 7pm.

Polls are now open.  A reporter from a TV station in Greenville took this picture of people lined up before 7am, waiting for the polls to open:

I guess the "I'm going to line up to vote at 7am on a Saturday morning" demographic is pretty old.

Looks like a GOP primary crowd to me.

By profiling each of the people in that picture, can we estimate whether the polls systematically overestimated or underestimated support for any particular candidate?

We'll need at least double that, surely.

This will also be a test for Overtime Politics. They say that they can get their numbers in "within 90-120 seconds of state officials announcing them." We'll see if they're able to do this. Someone can watch the AP/CNN threads (or any others that are faster) and see if Overtime is able to beat them or if they're just copying some other groups numbers. If that is so, and there is an error, we can easily tell.

(Posting and identical post over on the Nevada thread.)

Also, what's up with this... I could have sworn there were several other dropped candidates on the Republican side...

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=229608.0

Yeah, there was like 14 people who were still on the ballot... did they just remove those candidates from the ballots before they were printed (no mention of doing something like this on the P2016 website)?

Since everyone just suspended their campaigns instead of fully ending them, they stay on whatever ballots they filed  to be on.

So why are they not included on CNN, the State Election Commission, or the AP link? I mean, CNN is understandable, but for New Hampshire, AP included every candidate, even the ones that dropped out.

Also, precinct turnout looks good, or as they say: "smooth/heavy", so far:

Based on the fact that there are more than 2x the number of absentees and SC's general fast growing population, I would not be surprised if turnout hit 800.000 today.

SC voter registration increased from 2.2 Mio. in 2008 to around 2.6 in 2012 and now stands at 2.98 million.

Trump, I guess.

In IA the large turnout was due to evangelical voters who did not poll as likely voters. That translated to the win for Cruz and strong 3rd for Rubio. If SC has any similarity to IA (and it may not) then Trump may not be the beneficiary.

In South Carolina, shabbat ends at 6:46 PM. Who came up with the idea that voting on Saturday until 7 PM is acceptable? Not that there are many Orthodox Jews in South Carolina afaik, but this still disenfranchises them.

They could have early voted.

Plus I'd be facetious and say they'd be disenfranchising themselves...

Jeb Bush seems to have the most radio commercials, while Rubio has the most campaign signs.  I don't really watch much TV so I have no clue who has the most TV commercials.
