I deal with anxiety and occasional depression... but I am finding a pattern.  I seem to be most "blue" in the 1st 3 months of the year (January-March).

Not until spring comes do things get better.  Naturally I favor the 2nd half of the year over the 1st.

Sort of the opposite for me. I tend to be more depressed during the summer.

Us Southern Californians don't get seasons, Tony Tongue. On the plus side, that means we can't have seasonal affective disorder.

Any issues I have tend to be much worse in January through March, but I'll avoid self-diagnosing this. I have enough else to deal with.

I remember people in Alaska always talking about this... they'd enjoy spring/summer/fall and then winter comes in October up there... by February everyone is going nuts... but they get their dividend checks and so many fly off to Hawaii for a week.

The perpetual greyness gets annoying after a bit.  Worse than living in the desert.  But at least the grey turns back into real colors after a few months.  And the coldness seems to suck more every year older I get, still, I think I'd rather have seasons than not have seasons.

Who needs seasons when you can have a bright shiny sun all year? Cheesy

The sun is great, but some snow every once in a while would be nice TBH. >90% sun with the rest being rain gets a little boring after a while.

Normally no, but the first winter I'm experiencing in Vancouver has been pretty tough. I mean, it's way warmer here than it is in Toronto where I'm used to things, but it pretty much rains every single damn day of the whole winter. I can't remember the last time I saw the sun. It's pretty dreary, and it is definitely affecting my mental wellbeing.

Does it have something to do with the lack of sun, or cabin fever up there in the tundra? For some reason, the environment does not affect my mood much. It never has really.

I don't know since the thought never occurred to me, but I certainly had a rough January this year and am currently having one of the single worst weeks of my life that I can remember and have found myself struggling not to get lost in escapism/self-pityesque depression.  If I feel anywhere near this awful next year during the first three months, then it is quite possible I suffer from this.  If not, it's probably a one off due to a bunch of really sh!tty stuff happening right around the same time.

Interesting that fish is supposed to be the antidote since that's effectively all I eat. Predisposition would have been my guess since that's the case for most disorders, but if Wikipedia says so, then hey, must be right.

Wikipedia isn't saying anything, they are citing a report by The American Journal of Psychiatry who "suggested" it.

That's wasn't sarcasm for the record. I know it probably sounds like it especially with the connotation of Wikipedia, but it is almost always there with a good citation.

Yeah, I think so. I feel completely awful after long periods of time without sunlight.

It's not so much a matter of the length of the day, but I need some sunshine to feel good or I tend to be much more depressed.  When it is cloudy/grey, then it affects me. But when it rains, it seems not to be as bad. And I feel better when it snows.
