Registration isn't what makes something a red state or a blue state.

I'd say party registration statistics are only going to be less relevant going into the future, as well, due to automatic voter registration. Oregon and California mail you a form after it auto-registers you that asks you if you want to select a party or cancel the registration. I doubt many would return the card just to select a party, so that would mean a lot more independents/no affiliation.

I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason so many people there register as independent is so they can vote in either primary.
