"Junkie" is a slang term for someone who is addicted to something. "Junk" is an old slang term for heroin, which is the origin if the word junkie, tho I don't think junk is used much these days to refer to heroin.

Not the drug, but at least over here in the West we refer to heroin addicts as junkies. That is to say, if you don't stick "media" or "movie" or "turkey" #christmasstoryreferences in front of it, people assume you're talking about heroin. Just trying to help v0031 here.
