Just want to gauge people's worldviews. Obviously, you're the arbiter of what is "better," but I'm thinking here of the macro scale; economically, politically, technologically, and so on will the future be better than the past?

EDIT: A little bit about why would be nice as well.

Depends on what part of the future we're talking about, and what part of the past we're talking about. In general though, I'm optimistic that the next century (2016-2116) will be better than the last (1916-2016).

Technically we can never know because we're always living in the present.  This is very deep. I like it.

The far future, yes, because I believe so. The near future, no, everything is going in the wrong direction.

history tells us that it will, it always has been before (with short exceptions here and there you don't need to point out)

I do not think the future will be better or worse but be different. Their will no doubt be positive changes as well as no doubt be negative developments. I just do not think you can compare one time period as better or worse then another, they all have their good and bad points.

There's a dangerous possibility of "worse" if/when climate change comes to a head.
