The necessary condition for doing this, of course, would be military occupation of the said therritory. In fact, for any Mexican government to consider the sale, at the very least, Mexico City should be first occupied (its return would have to be thrown into the bargain).

Of course, assuming the annexation happens without ethnic cleansing of the current population, it would bring in about 22 mln. Mexicans - roughly Florida and Nebraska together. I guess, a few thousand of these would be Anglo mormons and German mennonites, but the rest would be very Mexican Smiley

ag - At times I've heard disdain from folks from the DF and surrounding areas for the El Norte population that borders the US. Is there any truth to that, or is it just something to say to the gringos?

As true as it is everywhere else. New Yorkers are as dismissive of the fly-over folks. And, of course, it works both ways: it is not only Cruz who talks of "New York values" but also  regiomontanos are prone to say all sorts of things about chilangos. And, of course, Oaxaca accent is treated a lot worse in DF than the norteņo. But, if push comes to shove, they are all Mexican this side of the border.

I like the sound of this. But why purchase it when we can invade it instead?

Yeah, and why don't we annex the whole world while we're at it? Roll Eyes

That's the plan!  These things take time though.

Manifest Destiny to the extreme. Let Earth be our footstool, the arms of the Milky Way America's arms, our heart the beating heart of the spiral.

Let the Universe be America's playground. Cheesy

Of course! You've reminded me that a sequel came out (relatively) recently, and that I really should get around to reading it.

The easier thing would be to turn NAFTA into a North American Union. a) If you really want a wall puuting it above Guatemala and Belize would be relatively cheap; and b) it would freak out tinfoil hats and nationalists.

There are going to be so many M&A opportunities when we have a deal maker in power, it's going to be ridiculous. I wouldn't put it past us to buy a severely undervalued piece of it without giving the current holders any voting rights. Full cash deal.

If anything, we should be giving it back what we stole. Brought us nothing but trouble.

That doesn't seem fair. If you include all the territory taken from Mexico in one fashion or another, you get this map (Green for partial MX, red for all MX, not sure about New Mexico entirely):

Obviously Texas has been vital to our energy concerns for some time. California is also extremely important to our economy/country as a whole in many ways and has been seen as a bright spot for the country. No comment on others (Though CO is beautiful!)

Keep Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Northern California. The rest should, by all rights, be depopulated to prevent further water loss and pollution. Putting humans in those areas was a mistake. RIP Colorado River and all that. The Southwest has been the American repository of violence, decadence, and environmental damage. If anything, we should have gone North and taken Canada, a decent, God-fearing folk.

But...what about the beloved Grand Canyon in AZ? We have to keep that.

Think of it...Sonora. That state has some of the best beaches of Mexico, not counting Cancun. Who doesn't want that as the 51st or 52nd state?  Beautiful landscape for retirees, tanning and golfing.

The most likely probability of this happening would be the creation of a massive North American Union which would include the USA, Canada, Mexico (all of it), and some smaller Caribbean and Central American countries. Otherwise the chances of this happening are similar, possibly even less, to Mexico reacquiring Arizona, New Mexico, South Texas, and SoCal.

Actually, if the entirety of the Colorado River basin were in the United States, the Endangered Species Act could probably be used to force less water being taken out of the Colorado so as to save the habitat of the Colorado Delta.  Tho it might be too late now to actually save the delta.

You could pay for it by selling naming rights to each calendar year, obviously.

As well as the Brooklyn Bridge, of course Smiley
