Because when we have these binary FF/HP polls (or variations thereof), it is either/or.  I see no reason to make this an exception.

Uh yeah, I've been on this forum before. The "dichotomy" only exists because of a phrase that admits the subjectivity of the categorization.

I view the Civil War as a crusade or holy war to rid the US of slavery (even if that wasn't intended by many of the combatants), so John Brown is a pretty easy FF.

Freedom Fighter by definition, but he wasn't very good at it. Generally speaking, when one attempts to lead a slave rebellion, it would be advisable for one to actually TELL THE SLAVES.

My opinion of him would turn on whether or not he helped or hurt Lincoln secure the Pub nomination in 1860. Everything else is secondary. And I don't know the answer to that one.
