Salt Lake City is as modern, as wide-awake, as lively and as dynamic as a thousand other American cities. But it was built by the Mormons, i mean the Jesus Christ of the latter day saints.

Mormon missionaries do alot of stuff on people that get caught up in pornography. As for nightlife, apart from girls in the loby of the Hilton, who made out she was there solely to save souls, there dont seem to be any. Liberalism in Utah is like finding a needle in a haystack.

TOday Mormons make up around 40% of the city population and 75% of the state population- the rest they call Gentiles - which is why it`s the healthiest, hardest-working, longest living and fastest growing population in the US.

They are also not only the biggest doorknockers in town, they also seem to own most of the doors they knock on. They own a whole slice of the town centre, including the huge buildings from which their three-member First Presidency and their Council of the Twelve Apostles run what is now the fastest growing church with 11 million members in 123 countries.

There`s no crime, doubtless because Playboy and other sex magazines are banned in the state prisons, and no real violence, well, no street violence, anyway. Utah also has more high school graduates than anywhere else in the states. They ban access to any internet sites other than Snow White. It`s all good, clean, old-fashioned entertainment. Even the videos you rent from the local video store have the sex scenes cut out. The married women, i am told, spend their time watching doubles tennis because like marrisge, it`s a game that enables one partner to glory in th emistakes of th eother. Emphasis is on the family and family life.

So can the democrats ever penetrate into Utah? How would Harry Reid do in the state?

It would be a question of ideology, not religious affiliation.  Reid as a conservative Democrat might do well, but I still think he'd lose it.  He might break 45%.

harry reid isnt competent enough to be tax collector of a sparesly populated nevada county, much less senate minority leader.

all of this presidential talk is just absurd.

the man has limited abilities. (and it shows)

Possibly.  I believe Reid a member of the LDS and he is conservative (for a Democrat).  It will help, but not enough, IMO.

45%? Really? I think it's going to be hard for the Democrats to break 32%, let alone 45%.

Plus minus 40%, more likely a bit less.

My guess is about 35% for Reid.

Even though he is a Mormon, I do not believe he would win the state of Utah against a conservative to moderate Republican in a presidential election.

The state is certainly conservative, and I believe a good majority would opt to stay with the GOP.  Most people in Utah do not want the Democrats running Washington.

Utah is too conservative. I would bet that it is the most in the nation. Even a conservative democrat couldn't pull more than 35%.

I would classify losing by 10 points as getting "ripped."  He has several advantages, he's LDS, from a neighboring state, and much more in line with the electorate there.  If we were talking about any other state, we'd be talking about him potentially winning it.

Anybody who lives there, or has friends or family there.

All America and all Americans should care about all other parts of America and about all other Americans.

Working together will solve a lot more problems than picking and choosing who we care or don't care about.

While there will always be debate and differing viewpoints, and different solutions proposed in matters affecting the country and the world, as well there should be, we should never lose sight of the fact America is one country, and we should all care about all other parts of the country.

There is strength in unity.

I just want to make this small point: remember when I registered here a couple of years ago?  I totally thought that since John Kerry was Catholic, he would totally win the state of Louisiana.  He didn't; in fact, I think he got less of a percentage there this time than Gore did last time.  Just a little thought to ponder for you guys.
