Eagerly awaiting the post-civilizational battle between "futurists" and "primitivists". The irony of the conflict will, naturally, be that primitivists are sadly forced to adopt futurist fighting technology to win, or be destroyed.

It's very clever to make promises that are far enough in the future that your monied investors will all be dead by the time you're supposed to deliver your impossible crazy promise.

Indeed.  Taking money from rich people that are afraid of death is like the world's 3rd oldest profession.

Wouldn't they still be seriously disadvantaged? They wouldn't be nearly as effective as creating new weapons and tools to continue the fight as their whole existence is geared towards not doing just that. At any rate, historically it seems progress always wins, so I'll be prepared with popcorn and a low-orbit viewing station.

Priest, followed by prostitute. I suppose if you interpreted either "priest", "politics", or both broadly, then you could say that politics is as well the oldest profession.

Actually, if anything, history reveals that such "progress" is far less consistent then one would like to believe.

I was thinking of a forth P, Pimpin'.

...so I looked it up.  Oddly enough, the world's oldest proffession wasn't always whoring.  It was first a tailor of all things.  Went through all the old stand bys ( farmers,[1] cattle drovers,[2] horticulturalists,[3] engineers,[4] landscape gardeners,[5] the military,[6] doctors,[7] nurses,[8] teachers,[9] priests[10] and even lawyers.) before settling on prostitutes before WWI (thanks to Kipling and Shaw).  Some people didn't catch on as quickly as others....

Alot of deaths are preventable, like in my individual circumstance, last year. But, we should spend time curing diseases, so future deaths dont happen. Let dead move on to nxt life.

It was once thought that eugenics was progress and that didn't win. Some predictions actually don't end up happening.
