Because isn't "La Politica" wonderfully entertaining?

As an exemplary example of New Mexico politics, Democrat Idalia Lechuga-Tena was just appointed to the NM House by the Bernallilo County Commission with the votes of 2 Republicans and 1 Democrat (the commission is controlled 3-2 by the Democrats.)

This was actually speculated by some to be a possibility, but it was roundly ruled out when an ABQ-area Democratic Senator stated that Lechuga-Tena doesn't even live in the House district... only to have it revealed that she just moved to be eligible.

So the Democrat carpetbagged into the House district then got confirmed with the votes of 2 Republicans and 1 Democrat. Seriously, only in New Mexico.

(The primary for the seat will be one to watch when 2016 rolls around.)

Wasn't that long ago that our Atlas friends were rating the NM House and Senate both at Safe D.

Yeah, the issue is that Martinez's political machine is very effective and is actually attempting to take the Senate in 2016... but now we have to see whether or not indictments on the very people that run the machine are going to come down and if the Democrats can take advantage effectively.

Also, I'd like to note that some of the usually ineffectual Senate Democrats are actually going on the offensive against ABQ Mayor Berry (R) who has repeatedly excused his lack of leadership as actually inaction by the legislature.

The GOP could possibly get the tie in the State Senate in 2016. I don't know about the State House, but we will see if the GOP can hold its majority. Since it has been non-controversial it is quite possible.

I think unless the GOP gets a stellar candidate for SOS the GOP will lose the Secretary of State race.

Public Opinion Strategies?  You should always be aware of your acronyms when naming your firm.

It seems like even inoffensive Republicans are incapable of governing.
