So as of now the anti-Edwards ads don't seem to have the desired effect.

How in the world is Edwards so popular in LA? Like, seriously. He's dominating in both primary and runoff polls, and his popularity is on a level that some Democratic politicians from safe D states can't even dream of. This is Louisiana, for god's sake. Louisiana.

Edwards with 61% favorables in a republican poll in Louisiana? Wow....

But of course, this doesn't mean he's going to win. Lincoln Chafee and Scott Brown lost despite their approvals being around 60%. In any case, the LA Republican Party needs to be praying 24/7 that Angelle or Dardenne manages to get into the runoff.

Isn't Edwards pro-life and more conservative than most Democrats?

But he's much more progressive/liberal than all of the Republicans in the race, and that's what matters.

Yeah, and he's also pro-2nd amendment. He'd probably be to Louisiana what Phil Scott would be to Vermont.

If Dardenne does indeed lose, Bel Edwards gets my support.

I've been trying to wrap my head around this race, and it appears that Republicans may indeed blow this. I'm just glad there's a runoff, because there's no way I could confidently predict what would happen today (even though I technically did a few days ago). I think we can say that Edwards is striking the right chords and reorganizing the same kind of voters that put Landrieu in the senate for 3 terms. Jindal is also Edwards best friend in this governor's race. This has easily become more fascinating than Kentucky's race.

What I'm also trying to imagine is Vitter losing, having to come back for Senate and then running for re-election. That would be SO embarrassing, and he'll probably get primaried at that point just for that.

I imagine Vitter probably retires from politics after this embarrassing little bender.
