How would have former Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe have done if he had ran for president in '16? A Southerner, a moderate Democrat. Old roots. I think he would have done better than Jim Webb.

Probably would've gotten about half of Webb's support.

Nah, Beebe would have campaign at least a little bit, so he probably would have outperformed Webb. His ceiling would be ~5%, though.

Beebe has a ceiling of 15%.

If he ran:

Hillary Clinton: 43%
Bernie Sanders: 32%
Martin O'Malley: 8%
Mike Beebe: 7%
Undecided/Other: 9%

State Polls:

Iowa:
Bernie Sanders: 34%
Hillary Clinton: 33%
Martin O'Malley: 7%
Mike Beebe: 5%
Undecided/Other: 16%

New Hampshire:
Bernie Sanders: 40%
Hillary Clinton: 31%
Martin O'Malley: 6%
Mike Beebe: 5%
Undecided/Other: 10%

South Carolina:
Hillary Clinton: 27%
Mike Beebe: 26%
Martin O'Malley: 20%
Bernie Sanders: 19%
Undecided/Other: 7%

LOL, nobody cares about Mike Beebe. His ceiling would be nowhere near 15%.

He is a lot more competent than you seem to think. Look at how well Bayh or Lieberman could have done.

His predecessor was a wildly popular Mike Huckabee who became Governor after the last Democratic Governor was convicted.

I never said he wasn't competent, but that's beside the point. There's no room and no appetite in the Democratic Primary right now for an elderly conservadem who was Governor of Arkansas. He's Jim Webb without the spotlight of being a former Senator.

He's a great campaigner.

The only reason he didn't run was because he's too old and genuinely dislikes politics. It's a fun hobby for him, but it's a miserable career.

I don't know that he would have done any better than Webb, but the fact that he only left office this year makes him more relevant than Webb, who was last in office in 2013. I think Steve Beshear or Joe Manchin would be better candidates of the moderate, Southern Democratic persuasion.
